Woken up to an overcast cold morning. Well that's what we'd normally expect it was, BUT i think it's more a case of another foggy morning that'll stay around until the early afternoon! Either way, it's not very inviting to a couple of bikers who are looking to actually see something beyond 5m away today

Itenary for today means we get to travel along the california coast heading south towards Los Angeles. But before we even get to the Pacific Coast Highway we first have to negotiate San Fransisco traffic! And i hate traffic when you're on a big bike and don't know where you're going! To make matters worse the thick fog and cold conditions created a bleak start to the day.

I'd like to say the day got better, but it didn't! To begin with it was the coldest day ever! We pretty much wore every piece of clothing possible that would fit under or over our riding gear, and we were still cold! We also rode via the Golden Gate bridge to get one final look hoping to view the entire bridge, but obviously with the fog we saw nothing. Which means in the 3 days that we spent in San Fran we did not see the complete bridge at all!

The amazing highway that everyone had raved to us about, well today was just another road we had to ride to get somewhere warm. I'm sure there were amazing views to our right, I believe beyond the edge of the road the ocean is breaking on the rocks, but we could not see any of it! We didn't bother stopping for most of the lookouts as we could not see past the edge of the cliff we were standing on.

But the Fog did finally lift at about 1:00pm, the sun came out and we were very excited... and then the fog came back, sun disappeared and that's the way it stayed for the rest of the day!

The one moment the sun came out was ruined by Mike forgetting what side of the road he was meant to be on (while exiting a gas station) and he dropped the bike again.. He will later argue that I shouted at him through the intercom (of course i did, he was on the wrong side of the road) which distracted him!

We did finally make it to our destination for the night, Monterey. It's on the bay and is known for it's fisherman's wharf. Before venturing out visiting the wharf I was in need of a drink to calm the nerves. We found a very quiet italian restaurant/bat where we managed to con the bar tender into making us our favourite cocktail-a Toblerone. It turned out to be a lovely spot, we it was warm and we had the bar to ourselves as we watched the first pitch thrown of the 2013 world series.

We did leave the warmth of the bar to go and see the famous Monterey Wharf. The wharf is covered in restaurants and souvenier shops. The unique thing a out each restaurant is that they try an intice you inside by free offerings of their clam chowder. Obviously we had to sample everyone :) and now know that there are different flavoured chowders!

We did finally settle down for a lovely dinner at one of the restaurants. It had a great view of the harbour with crystal clear water. Definitely the cleanest marina/harbour that we've ever seen! It was so clean that we got to see a seagull snorkelling amongst the rocks... without his snorkle! As a result we decided not to order the chicken off the menu...
Also, we finally got to enjoy a margarita during happy hour in California! A much needed way to end the day.
