Kenya Mission Trip
By Karla Threadgill Byrd
What a special trip this was, and it was my second trip no less. On the way to Kenya I caught a flu bug and thus found the need to sleep every chance I had. My friend John Stanko took every chance he had to take and post a picture of me sleeping. I would not want the world to think I am a sleeper or slacker, for that's just not true (well, most of the time it isn't!)
My other pictures reflected the vision that God revealed to me. I met strong women doing the work of God. The famiy is God's institution and it is alive and well in Kenya, even if it takes on a broader family expression. The women at the "Each One Touch One" orphanage are raising Godly children and establishing a business to support this home.
The pictures of the elephants and lions show importance of a family/group as a foundational concept. This animal model of living in families translates welll with humans. People thrive when they are raised with family in Godly homes. When I returned home I reached out to family members that I had offended and attempted to reconcile. I am consciously working to improve family dynamics.
The trip to Kenya continues to influence my thoughts and actions. I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him in the Motherland.
