After leaving Austin, I drove to Dallas.  I stopped at a little art gallery and cafe on the way up and talked to the owner about digging for fire opals.

I arrived at Lyn's house, and met Stephen, her 17-year-old son, who I haven't seen since he was about 5.  We talked mostly about bands that I could recommend for him, but a little bit about physics, too.  The next night, Jonathan came over, who is about 25, and who I actually remember as a grown kid.  He's a very inquisitive guy, and we talked all about linear algebra, computer science, and all sorts of of nerdy stuff.  Nice to talk to someone about these things who actually cares.  Lyn shared her rock collection with me, and we talked into the night a few times.

I went to have lunch with Bill Crouse, an old family friend of my parents.  He filled me in on the kids, and I got Heidi's number from him.  The next day, Heidi and I met up in Arlington for some Mexican food.  Next we went over to visit my grandparents' grave, and drove by their old house.  I also checked out the old Pizza Hut where I delivered pizzas, while staying with my grandparents one summer during college.  Heidi is doing well, and it was great to catch up.  She is one of my oldest friends.

I drove around Richardson, saw my old house, and generally took in the old sights.  On a whim, I stopped by the Quine's old house, another old family friend, and they were still there.  We talked for a while, and I met their youngest kids, who are now in high-school.  The Quines have 9 children, and every name starts with 'B'.  Their oldest, Bryce, is my age, and we made plans for dinner the next day.  I got to meet his wife, Kirby, who is very cool.  They are great people, and I hope to stay more in touch.

I also stopped by to see my old friend Thomas Kunkel, who is recently married, and they are planning a 9-month road trip of their own down to the southern tip of Chile.  Very cool.  They are living in an apartment added to their dad's shop in Richardson, across from the old Pancho's in my neighborhood.
