i picked up my hire car in the morning only to find that it is an automatic - i had no idea how to drive it so had to ask the guy in the shop it was quite embarrassing. i stopped by the shop to pick up some food and then started my drive across arthers pass - one of the most scenic drive in new zealand. the 1st section is nice but nothing amazing as ur just leaving christchurch and crossing some fields of sheep. as the road began to climb hire the road is nestled amongst snow top mountains with beautiful lakes underneath them.

i stopped for lunch at castle hill, which is a bouldering area and has massive rock stacks sat on the mountain side which is pretty cool, went for a walk amongst the rocks and then continued on to Arhters pass village stopping to take photos on the way.

the next morning i went for a walk along the bridel veil track was about 2 hours, 2 other people from the hostel were headed to the path so i went with them, was a nice walk throught the fern forsets to a waterfall, also stoped to view the devils punchbowl waterfall, but couldnt walk to the bottom as the path was closed due to avalanches.

Arthur's Pass
Remember it well, lovely there - except for our first experience of sandflies! We did not heed Sally's warning of them but suffered afterwards!
Love, Gma. (also went to the Pancake Rocks)
