Surprise!    Air Transat offered return fares to Costa Rica for $199 so a few days afer leaving it, I was back in the treehouse.   Four spontaneous friends and family came with me, all of them curious about life in a jungle treehouse and willing to try it out.  My excuse was that we had some projects that I have to do.

Don't you love it when your plane arrives more than an hour earlier than scheduled?  We landed in the new Daniel Oduber International AIrport in Liberia, which opened in our few days away from Costa Rica.  Swanky - it has air conditioning, a couple of gift shops and 10 gates (compared to the old outdoor one which had 2 gates).

We decided to start our drive today and get a couple of hours done today and less time in the car tomorrow.  There really aren't any hotel options until you get to Jaco.  Our first hotel there was vetoed as soon as we stepped out of the car because the noise was so loud, we could clearly hear it through the vehicle and across the parking lot.  It would be great it you are here on spring break though...
The second hotel was closed.  Our third option looked fine, but they charged $170 per person!  Then we checked out the cute little Hotel Poseiden which is perfect.

Dinner at the Taco Bar was tasty as always.  Everyone started with a batido (those fresh fruit shakes) which are enormous here.  We tried mango, pineapple and banana.  They have one of the few salad bars in Costa Rica.  The best part are the tacos - first you choose which kind of fish.  Next you decide whether you want it grilled or fried.  The best part is next which is choosing whether to have fresh coconut or herbs or hot spices - they're all fabulous.  The last choice is to decide how many tacos to have, but with the salad and the batidos, one is usually all you can enjoy.

Hmm, since this was such a last-minute trip, 3 of us have no Costa Rican money, called colones.  We thought we'd get some in Liberia, but we didn't stop there.  We assumed that we could get some cash from this tourist town, but none of the cash machines are working.  Every one, in different banks, has a different message, but I'm pretty confident that they are closed in the evenings and will start working again at 5 am.

We've been up all day, so we're all ready to sleep even though it's early.  It feels late, because it was completely dark by 6 pm.  Good night!
