Carlsbad Caverns was beautiful. I liked the dark, hushed atmosphere. We enjoyed the King's Palace tour and did both of the self-guided walking tours of the Natural Entrance and the Big Room. When the tour guide turned out the lights to let us experience pitch black, I wondered what it would be like to do a dark retreat here with nothing but the sound of water dripping. Overall the caverns were a very worthwhile experience.
All of the rushing from one place to another has started to wear on us and we're looking forward to three days at Guadalupe National Park in Texas without much to do there other than to hike and witness the desert.
I've been enjoying "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" over the past couple of days. Good travel material, though I'm looking forward to finishing so that I can take a look through some of the (voluminous!) study materials for Sutrayana Seminary.
It's much warmer this far south and it's been fascinating to learn about how the various spiny plants and scrubby bushes were used by the Native Americans here in so many ways - for food, sandals, and medicine.
Hoping to find time to meditate today. The pace of our Southwest trip is fast and we'd both like to slow down a bit. We miss our friends and family - how's everyone doing out there? Keep in touch!
xoxo,
Corey
