Where I stayed
My hammock

Hello, I am Chris, and I would like to introduce myself. I
have lived in Dunlap all my life, and so I am itching to begin my summer
adventures and see the world. I am so happy that summer is here because I love
to be outside, and I am hoping to be able to do most of my summer classes from
my hammock. I am a huge movie buff, and I would guess that probably half the
books I have ever read were after seeing a movie based on them. (I know I
shouldn’t admit that!).  I expect to
graduate from ICC at the end of the summer with my associates degree, and then
onward to a still undetermined university. My travels this summer will begin in
the turbulent land of Afghanistan where I will see the world through the eyes
of Amir in “The Kite Runner”. Together we will explore the streets of Kabul,
both during the happier times of his childhood, and later after the country
descends into violence. With a little luck, I will not only get through it
alive, but also with some valuable insight into a culture so different from my
own. After that, I will be returning home, but I expect it will look very
different from the home I left. Through some stroke of misfortune, I will
arrive in a dystopian future United States, viewed from two different
perspectives. The first will be Philip K Dick’s vision (Ubik) of a world where
death is not the end, but is followed by a dreamlike existence controlled by
those who are still living. The second perspective will come from Jonathon Lethem’s
“Chronic City”, a kind of paranoid and dreamlike Manhattan that has become
consumed by its own image. All of my adventures promise to be both exciting and
thought provoking, and I look forward to sharing them with you all.
