As day four approached, we new that our time in Lima was close to an end. It would be on Tuesday that we would head to Cusco to begin our journey into the Machu Picchu region.

We decided to head back to the Mira Flores area. Specifically, we wanted too see this historic site known as Huacca Pucllana. The taxi ride took us a few Soles (Lima Currency) to get there. This is an impressive site that at one time had large pyramids. Unlike those in other parts of the world, these pyramids were made totally of adobe. One key difference is that they do not use straw in their adobe to hold it together. The process is similar where water is mixed with the dirt and then it is set in the hot sun to dry.

For years, the pyramids were scene as an eye sore to the community. Many did not realize their significance in Peruvian history. As more and more people started to understand what it was, there were a renewed effort to restore the site.

Today about 50% of the site is partially restored. Over time, much of the outer layers of the site have deteriorated. When the outer sand is removed it exposes the fully entacted pieces just below the surface. The other interesting piece about the site is that the pyramids are solid.

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at the largest flea market in Peru. It was quite the site. This facility was four levels and had over 5000 individual booths. It was crowded and quite the experience. You could get anything here: movies, computers, iPads, Coach, Tumi - it just that no one can guarantee it is real. =). Unfortunately, I do not have any photos to share as I was warned there were pick pocketers inside as the facility is fairly cramped.

Once we completed our journey at the site, we found a nice place to have dinner. It was in central Mira Flores. I will post a photo of the food I had - it was an incredible mixture of fish and vegetables.
