When I landed in Brazil, I didn't think I knew a soul in the country.   That was until I remembered Anna, a sweet architect that I met in Greece seven months ago.  She lives in Rio de Janeiro and upon receiving my email asking to meet for coffee, she immediately responded and invited me to stay in her home.  A few days later we were hiking, beaching and sightseeing.  After spending the first four days alone, it was really nice to be in good company.

One night after going to a fancy samba club, Anna asked if I would like an "anthropological experience."  Not one to say no, I smiled and said "of course!"  We then turned the corner into a dark alleyway where there were small bands playing music and eclectic groups of people listening and dancing.  I was making small talk with a new friend when someone interrupted us and he opened up the drawstrings of his swimming trunks and sold a little tinfoil ball.  At that point it was time to keep moving!  We checked out a few other local venues and then hopped in a cab home.

The second half of my Brazilian adventure was at Iguassu Falls.  Almost 2 miles wide and 250 feet high, they say they are the most beautiful waterfalls in the world.  I donīt have many experiences to compare it to, but it was the closest thing I've come to living in a Lucky Charms commercial.

During this time I tagged along with three girls from London and countless traveling couples.  Seeing these relationships has really started to tug on my heartstrings.  I suppose it would have been impossible to have convinced me to travel with friend or boyfriend before this trip ... but if I do it again, itīs definitely a journey worth sharing.
