A Rural Ride thro' Amish County

Hi Everyone,
Wooster as I mentioned in my last report is a very pleasant small town with a nice hotel.
Usual 07:15 start in cold conditions straight up a two mile climb - that warmed us up!  Then off into the Ohio countryside for a 93.5 mile trip.  This was one of the most picturesque of any of our rides.  We spent the whole day on small back country roads wandering between farms and fields.  The corn is much more advanced here compared with the country we have been riding in to the west.  There is a great deal of forest and woodland, much like Hampshire!
The houses along the way looked expensive and well kept and there were a lot more of them.
I was invited to temporarily do a bit of guiding because we were given a new route that involved a bike path without vehicle access.  This is unique to the Tour where our leader has arranged things so that at any time a bike can be fixed or a rider rescued by one of the support vehicles.  The normal route apparently has a lot of broken surfaces and the only way around this was to use a bike-only section.  The staff discussed this with me a couple of times since they have found out that I have guided mountain bike trips and I was asked if I would ride sweep for the last main group of riders.  Sounds more grand than it really was because in the end all I did was ride with a group I have been riding with regularly along a smooth, flat tarmac section.
Thereafter it was just a case of riding round one of the many road works and into Niles itself.
Our hotel was excellent being set on a small hill with views over the town and country to the west.  We were welcomed with a glass of champagne.   We had dinner at a nearby restaurant and came back to the hotel to find that the bar was serving any drink for 25c.  Penny said it was the worst wine she had ever tasted but at that price who would be surprised?  Must be the perfect Wills Wheelers hotel!
Ride the Dream,
Chris and Penny

We look forward to your 'blogs' and not at all bored - quite the contrary. So the £7 bottle of wine at the Tap is good then compared to the 25c offer!
