Climbed Mingus Mountain

Howdie old partners!
Left Prescott at 09:15 today on what was billed as a short ride of only 46 miles: treat it like a vacation our leader said.  Well it was short but it involved climbing to 7,023ft over Mingus Mountain in more or less one hit of 22 miles.  Same as yesterday, beautiful scenery and a winding road up through the Ponderosa Pines.  This time we could hear the birds (mostly buzzards waiting to prey on dead cyclists) because there was very little traffic.  A stiff climb!
The pay-off was a steep descent on a winding and rough road of 12 miles to the best hamburger restaurant in Arizona (it was too).  Then a short blast of 7miles to the hotel in 32C, although it felt much hotter than that.
Penny has asked me to point out that we are back at 3,500ft and tomorrow we have it all to do again to get to Flagstaff at 6,300ft (give or take a bit, when one has climbed 11,000ft in 6 days one doesn't count the odd 100ft here or there).  Our leader, anxious to cheer us all up, has said that we should treat it as one climb over the whole day but the scenery is good!
Now a delicate matter; I note from the comments that some doubt was cast on the average speed over 115 miles across the desert.  Come on chaps give me a break there was only a slight tailwind and only for a very small part of the total journey.
My mate Dana, who I have been tearing up the roads with, has had his pass revoked tomorrow (I think I have as well) so it will be a quieter day.  But Monday we hit the long desert routes again and 96 miles to Holbrook.
Hasta La Vista!
