Rode even further across the Mojave Desert
Blythe to Wickenburg. Five miles after the start of the ride, our first state line crossing! California to Arizona. We sprinkled a pinch of sand gathered from the Pacific beach at the Manhatten Pier at the base of the sign to placate the pixies and elves that live there.
Then a long 7 mile climb along I-10; then a brief respite followed by an 11 mile climb. We finally left I-10 after 26 miles and started along SR (State Route) 60. This is a 'classic' American road, absolutely straight across a desert floor followed by climbs through low hills. Initially there were RV parks although quite why anyone would want to live / stop there is a puzzle. The gaps between the small settlements were very large (in one case 25.9 miles).
Yesterday I joined with an American rider called Dana
So we have put in 216 miles across a desert in two days. Penny found the desert a lot more green than she expected. The giant cactus are very impressive.
Wickenburg is a tourist town and 'Dude Ranch Capital of the World'. I am not sure I fully endorse that but it will do!
