We have entered another world now. If you ever come to this part of the world, put Romania high on your list. We didn't go to Bucharest, heard that it was unimpressive and depressing more than anything, but stayed the entire time in Brasov (Romania's second city). At the train station we had a very odd feeling. Erin was a little freaked out. The very obvious presence of poverty, etc. and especially in the guise of Romnanian gypsies was a bit unnerving.
We had very positive experiences with the Romanian's however from "Vlad" in Budapest (I'd read the Romnanians deal with hardship and the memories of their hardships through biting humor and it seems to be true) and also from the many people who helped us find our way around the train station when we left Brasov.
Went to Dracula's castle, although it actually was his grandfather's. Never made it to his hometown although we meant to. Mostly we just hung out around town. Met lots of nice people and even got to see a Romanian pop concert. Ask James about the girl band.
