This morning we break camp from Hoodoo Lake and Elk Summit and start the journey down the mountain back to the main road. Our plan today involves finding a natural hot spring to soak in. Jerry Johnson Hot Springs are located just off the main highway, a short walk up river. We find the pull off on the side of the road, but are confused by the map. We trek around a bit and Jon seems to think we need to forge the river to get to the other side to find the hot springs. I am not liking the look or sound of that! We decided to drive down a bit further and sure enough a huge foot bridge that takes you across the river to the trail head to Jerry Johnson Hot Springs!! Looks like we might get a relaxing soak after all. We pack up our supplies and head off onto the trail, it is about 1.5 off the road. We pass a few soaker's on their way out and they let us know that it is indeed just up ahead and feels great!
When we get to the springs there are a few other parties there also enjoying a soak. Jon and I try to pick a pool with the temp we like. Video attached! We had a great time soaking in all the different pools. It was very relaxing and so beautiful. I hope to explore more natural hot springs in the future.
We hike back to the truck, grab a sandwich on the tailgate, and then proceed to try and find our next campsite for the night. After a couple of hours drive, we find the Wild Goose Campground. It is near perfect! Nice shady trees around the site, the tent sets on a small bluff and faces right out to the river, and a gorgeous beach to walk on! Can it get any better? You bet. You can also spread a sleeping bag out on the beach and watch the sun go down!!! JOY :-)
