We left early this morning with the ultimate destination of Baden. However, on our way we stopped at Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt. Here, Haydn spent the vast majority of his career. We got to take a tour of the palace, including a moment in the private chapel where Haydn would have performed his sacred music. We also were set to perform an informal concert in Haydn Hall, the grand performance hall where his symphonies would have been premiered. Our informal concert turned into something much longer, as an audience showed up and asked if we would perform more for them. The history of the space was intense. This was my first chance to conduct the choir on the tour.
