We got a late start out of Chicago. We didn't have to be out of the KOA until noon, so we took full advantage of that. I washed our laundry. I would have liked to say I washed and dried our clothes, but the driers were not so hot. Literally. It would have been more effective to have a clothesline up to dry the clothes in the sunshine. Unfortunately for us, we didn't have a clothesline, and even if we had, it would have been against KOA rules to put it up. So, I folded the clothes nicely and let them sit in very damp piles until we got here to the Clarion Inn in Toledo, Ohio. Brian arranged them throughout the room so they would dry and not mold up.

It was another driving day. And when I say a driving day, I really mean it. We were in the car from 1:00 to 10:30 with an hour time change and two bathroom breaks. It took us nearly four hours to get out of the Chicago area. Yikes. It's no wonder Brian is sick of driving. I have offered to drive, but he wants to be the man and do the driving. Whatever.

We listened to two more discs of The Killer Angels. I wrote some cards. Brian drove and sang songs. We saw a car fire near Gary, Indiana.

Today we reached our ninth state in nine days. We left Illinois, drove straight through Indiana and have ended up here in Toledo. Here's one thing I know for sure: Toledo, Ohio, is a pit. I am not a big fan of Ohio, as the times I've been here it's been either way too hot and muggy, or mega-snowy (okay, I liked using the snow blower, but really, once is enough). I don't really like Ohio at all and I'm looking forward to leaving it behind tomorrow.

We plan to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow before heading in to Pennsylvania. We'll have The Killer Angels finished just in time to see Gettysburg.

Wow! Nine states in nine days! I'm happy to hear that you will be finished with The Killer Angels before Gettysburg. It will make it more meaningful when you know who 'wins' the war. Enjoy!

Getting Personal, PA ( psuedoneum)
Brian, if this is your first opportunity for anticipation of that certain human pleasure since the trip began, I can fully understand your excitement. But remember--things become quite different now that you are married. Carrie, you have our permission, just be gentle with him.
