We decided to go to a pastry shop around the corner from the hotel for fresh made French pastries. It was nice to have a grocery store across the street so we could grab some orange juice as well. Today was the day we planned on walking every where we could. Linda found a Rick Steve's Paris book in the lobby of the hotel, so we borrowed it for the day. Started our walk on a street around the corner from the hotel, a direction we never went before…….we found a Starbucks!!!!! Aaahhh morning coffee and a familiar menu!
We visited locations that we had seen on the Paris tour the day before. This time we stopped off at the Rodin Museum to see his famous sculpture " The Thinker". The best deal in Paris……it was free! We made our way to the Louve along the Champ Elysees making a few stops along the way. We walked to the “left bank” area called St. Germain, a much different atmosphere than where we are staying. It has quaint little streets with narrow side walks and lots of shops. The walk was recommended by Rick Steve for its history of past residents and culture. With sore feet and knees, we decided to head for home and have casual evening, picking up dinner on the way. We are finding it easier to communicate with the locals…took some advise from Doug…..”If they don’t like your french….you know what they can do!! ” We spent the rest of the night planning for tomorrow….what’s the best way to get to the train station and what to do when we get there. We decided on the easy route……Taxi! Tomorrow will be a 3hr travel day to Avignon in southern France on a high-speed train….187mph!!!! We will be in the Provence area for 5 days, with road trips to surrounding towns. Hope they don’t drive like the lunatics in Paris!!! Just as a side note……I can’t believe how many cars in Paris have body damage!!!!! I think they all like to side swipe each other jockeying for positions at the lights.
