Where I stayed
The sun was hot on the caldera and while Howard & Irena went for a run along the ridge Mia & Eli decided to run the stairs from our place up to the ridge. After 10 laps and about 1700+ stairs later we were both exhausted but stoked from the exertion.
We each did what we did to relax in the afternoon before we got dolled up for dinner. Friends of Eli`s parents were in the nearby village of Oia (pr EE-Ah) and had recommended a place called The Red Bicycle. Eli drove over and after some time we found a place to park.
The area was crowded not only with tourists staying there but many more who had come to see the sunset. Santorini claims to be home of "the world's best sunset" and Oia is said to be the best place to see this sunset. As we approached the restaurant and the viewing platform the narrow marble laneways became increasingly crowded. With this many people in the shoulder season it must be a complete zoo during peak season!
The sunset was nice (though not any nicer than that from our patio) and prompted us to consider what were OUR best sunset(s) from the past 9 months – more to come on this. We met Nicole & Louie at the Red Bicycle and enjoyed good service, food and wine along with extraordinary company.
After a fast evening we said our goodbyes and returned to our spacious rooms and cozy beds.
