Today we tried to make it across the border into Botswana. We first had to get to and across the Caprivi Strip, a small strip of land who's people resisted Namibian and South African governments for over a decade. They were finally brutalized into submission by the German-backed, Namibian army, and the Strip is now a beautiful part of Namibia. Most of it is a game park which is dissected by the main highway. This means that when driving through you will almost always see elephants, and driving through at night is a big no-no.

We didn't make it to the border before it closed at six, so we camped in a German-run rest camp. My hammock hung under papayas.

Namibia has been great, though mostly desert. I never felt unsafe, and everyone was kind and helpful. They have amazing bread everywhere because of the German influence, which we'll probably miss.

Tommorrow, Zambia via Botswana.
