We left the canyon for Keetmanshoop and the ancient Quiver Tree forest. These trees are only found in this region and are actually aloe plants. They grow among rocks and acacias, living for many hundreds of years.
We didn't stay too long. We wanted to make it to camp at the great red sand dunes, at least seven hours north, so that we could see the sun rise on the dunes and watch the amazing light tricks on the sands.
We didn't get to camp until 2 a.m. We were to get up at 5:30.
