I know I said I'd go for the job at the Tree House, but I’ve been thinking two things, it’s such long hours for little pay but it would be nice to have a bit of money and not have to worry about paying for accommodation. I’m not sure!! So... I talked to the lady at reception about going on a walk, she said where I wanted to go would take hours, so I decided against it and said I’d walk along the beach to Wongaling. She said there was a bush walk below Wongaling but there’s crocodiles down there!!!, and she only says for people to go if they are used to bush walking, as soon as she said crocs, I said there was no way I’d go anywhere near there!! The walk along the beach was lovely, not too hot because there was a breeze, I’ve got used to putting sun lotion on since I got up here every day so I’m not getting burnt which is good, but I’ve been bitten by bloody mosquitoes instead!! I was weary the closer I got to Wongaling about crocs. There was a nice lagoon which looked gorgeous, but, looked like it could have a ridiculous amount of crocs in, so I went nowhere near it!!!!

I arrived at Wongaling after over an hour, walked up one of the streets in bare feet but decided to put my shoes back on because my feet were sore from the stones. I walked up to Woolworths, a supermarket, and looked around to see what was in the little area where that was, then I went to another area with some shops, then to Absolute, a backpackers. I went and asked them about jobs, the girl said no one would be leaving for another week and that it would be work for accommodation, but they help people gets jobs in the Wongaling so they can get some money while they’re in the area. I walked along towards the beach and asked at the skydiving place which is also a bar and restaurant if they had any jobs, but they didn’t, I then walked back towards Absolute and asked at the buffet restaurant there, the guy said there wasn’t a job until the backpacker who was in the kitchen working would be leaving. When I talked to the girl at Absolute, she said the Italian who is working at the buffet restaurant would be leaving in just over a week, I said this to the guy when I asked about a job, and he said he didn’t know anything about him leaving, whoops!! I went into a place where you could book trips and different things and asked about a deal I saw on the door for four nights accommodation, 4 meals, 2 hours free internet, pub crawl and something else, all for $100, which is good! I didn’t book anything while I was in there but also asked about diving trips from Cairns but she couldn’t get a deal she’d got for some other people who had been in last week, so I didn’t book that either. I went back to Absolute and asked a bit more about the jobs they had coming up, sat down and talked to the girl who I’d spoke to earlier, I also saw a sign they didn’t have when I was there before, about a receptionist/activity promoter, so I asked about that. It was a few hours cleaning, then organising things for people to do during the afternoon or evening, all sorts of different things you would plan. She told me to come back tomorrow when the owners would be there and talk to them about it, the job wouldn’t be available for a couple of weeks but I could go up to Cairns and spend some time up there plus go a bit further North. So I’ll go tomorrow and talk to the owners about the job, in a little place like this, I don’t know how many people would apply for it anyhow. The girl who’s doing the job at the moment has been there for six months, but has been doing it as part of her college course which is why she’s been there so long, but she said I’d be doing the job for three months if I got it, fingers crossed because it’s gorgeous here!!!, and it’s a paid job, but I don’t know about the pay, we’ll see tomorrow.

I stayed around Absolute because one of the girls said they were doing a exotic fruit tasting in North Mission, where I’m staying, and I could go if I wanted to or just get a lift back up that way. So I went to the fruit tasting which was interesting, I can’t remember what I tried, but a couple of the things weren’t nice at all. The fruits are grown locally which was nice to hear and there was one that if you ate it straight off the tree, you’d die, but it’s difficult to get into it before you’d be able to eat it anyway. The Aboriginals used to eat it but they’d do a couple of things to it before they’d eat it.

After that I went to the hostel, got changed and went down to the beach for a bit, lay on the sand, then went in the sea which was rougher so I didn’t actually swim, I came back to the hostel and swam in the pool instead.
