It seems as tho camper vans are not the best idea for TravelPod updaters, and this month has been a little quiet on the updates side, but i finally have a chance to sit down and get an entry in.
So we've been driving for around a week and a half now and done just over 2500k along the east coast and stopped off at some amazing places along the way. Some of the beaches here are pretty damn... well pretty!
The sites are amazing, the waters are amazing, the surf is just fantastic here (it's clear to see why this is the home of surfing) and the whole "Camping" scene/culture is pretty cool too. Everyone is just so chilled and mellow and.. well it's as if travelling by camper van makes everything else in the world irrelavant. The people who we have met have been great, and super friendly.
We stayed in a small town called Redcliffe a few nights back, and within minutes of being out of the camper we met a couple of the nicest people you could imagine. It happened to be the night of State Of Origin, which no doubt everyone back home will have the same blank expression on their faces as we did, but it's a rugby series which i guess is THE rugby series. NSW vs Queensland. Anyways, after a few minutes chatting we were soon invited round to this familys house to watch the game, and that there would be food if we wanted it, we could use the internet, wash any clothes that we needed to, shower etc etc! I think a lot of the hospitality came down to one of their eldest kids was travelling europe, and i guess they had hoped that some one would do that for their son.
Now the karma moment... We made a bit of an excuse not to go, but went and had a massive steak dinner at a bar and watched the game... sorry! I would reccomend the place we went to highly, as the meal and drinks came to around $90, but due to a card payment error on the waitress' account, they paid us $90 to eat their food!! Good times!
Another totally amazing day had to be the trip to Australia Zoo, the home of the lone and only Steve Irwin. We had such a great time, and saw so many thing we didn't get to see at Taronga. Highlights of the day... Feeding kangaroos, and having one holding on to my hand as I tried to walk away! He's my new friend :D
The camper is definately a big advantage for us, not only are we free to go where we want when we want, but it's cheap. One night in a campsite is around $30 then after a good shower and a dish washing session, we can get away with a couple free nights in rest areas or beach carparks. You'd pay a lot of money for a room with that sort of view!
So for now, halfway there, having an epic time and loving every single second.
Stay tuned for the second half...
