It started raining last night at about 1:30 (I guess that is really this morning) and we had a lot of thunder and lightning throughout the night. The rain and thunder continued for most of the morning and by the time we stopped in Fort Nelson our old nemesis the wind had come up and was blowing pretty good. We didn't see much scenery this morning due to the weather, but we did see lots of trees. Lots and lots of trees. The rain had let up by the time we got here but the skies continued to be overcast and it look like it could start raining again at any time.
We stopped in at the local Visitor Center and then filled up with gas. Wow! Gas is getting more expense the further north and west that we get. Now that in itself wasn't a surprise, but considering that this is huge oil and gas country makes it kind of curious. They have the same issue here that they do in Alaska - all of the crude has to be shipped somewhere else to be refined. By the time it gets back here as gas it is really expensive. In Edmonton we paid 87.9 cents/liter ($3.32/gallon), in Dawson Creek it was $1.089/liter ($4.12/gallon), and we paid $1.229/liter here ($4.65/gallon). Apparently BC has a surcharge on gasoline, as well as on beer and liquor and some other items that the other Provinces don't. Food is also very expensive, but that has been the case for all of Canada. So we gassed up and continued on our way.
We started out at 9:45 today and the good news is that we crossed into the Pacific Time Zone somewhere this morning so we get and extra hour today - yeah!
