Machu Picchu: Our final day (day 4) on the Inca Trail began at 4am. (YES, A.M.) It was cold and raining but so exciting, because this is what we worked for. Have you ever tried changing clothes while caccooned in a speeling bag? UN-like camping in Colorado, We simply got up, had breakfast waiting for us and hit the trail. No breaking down the tents, packing up and carrying everythig down the hill. Its a  A 2 hour breeze-of-a -hike to the summit above Machu Picchu. Moderate ups and downs until we summited to a cloud bank that covered up the "majestic views" we were promised. Have faith and the clouds may just part at thel last second like they did for us.
One of the perks of hiking into Machu Picchu, rather than taking the traimn, is being able to send 2 hours in the city before the Touristas arrive. We got a prvate tour with plenty of hoto ops sand people. We got to spend the entire day there, drinks before the train...and back to Cuzco by 9pm. What an amazing place to experience in person.
Back in Cuzco after our trek. We met our Inca Trail group out for drinks to say goodbye to some new and amazing friends.
We spent our last day in Cuzco hanging out with Sean and Princess Fleur from New Zealand...having drinks all day and playing Pictionary in our favorite cafe. They are the southern hemisphere version of us. Dating for 8 years, still not married. We all made a bet together. Whoever goes first, the other couple has to start the dreaded conga line at the wedding.
We are leaving tomorrow for the Amazon. (Dec 20th) Change it up a little. We had to abandon our ambitious plans of entering as the first ever tour into the virgin jungle. The weather is a little moody there right now and they couldn't guarantee us 6 days. Plane maybe couldn't fly out and we'd have to take the slow boat to China you may say to some way off town even further out and who knows when we would have gotten back. Sorry, not that adventurous. We have a beach to hit soon that nothing can keep us from after that hike!
