This is just another addition from the weekend activities...not much to say except we had loads of fun!

I have a busy week ahead, we are going to go do some promotion and awareness work for the vultures that are endangered here. I know what some of you may think; "ew yuck vultures!" (I have to admit I was one of them at first too) but they are actually a huge piece in the puzzle and if they are lost, the system will no longer be complete. They keep things hygienic, as they provide a free, essential (and go mostly unacknowledged) clean-up of the million of cattle carcasses in India. Three species of Indian vulture have in the last twenty years experienced the most rapid declines ever observed in any animal species. The cause was proved to be Diclofenac, an anti-inflammatory drug used as a pain-killer to treat sick cattle. If vultures feed on the livestock carcasses that contain residues of the drug, they die within 13 days from kidney failure and visceral gout (www.mahseerconservacy.org).

Then on Thursday, I am hopefully going into the reserve for the first time. I am trying to not get too excited as something may 'come up' and we are bumped off the schedule by some higher paying tourists but I entertain the thought of possibly seeing my first Tiger anyway. We are going for a full day ride, which increases my chances (although they are very good at avoiding tourists and its been a few days now that I haven't heard any of the safari team talking about a sighting!).

And finally, I believe the weekend brings another possible adventure to one of our other accommodation facilities - a very eco-friendly one, by the name of Vanghat Riverine Woods. If this happens, I expect this to be one of my highlights of the month. It hosts many bird-watchers, anglers and wildlife tours, but is not accessible by road.

Oh and lets not forget somewhere in between I will be hard at work on my research!
