Where I stayed
Anya and Ava's house
Yesterday was a day dedicated to the the field museum of natural history. Apparently i couldnt not go here, as Anya used to work here and the guide really reccommeneded it as a must and one of the top 5 museums to see.
You walk in and there standing in front of you is the biggest T-Rex dinnasour skeleton ever to be discovered, alredy this museum has a name to itself.
It was interesting though on the outside of the museum sculptures of animals and also outside the insitute of Art there were two lions, all these models had ice hockey uniform on. Bizzare right?
but actual fact this was due to the Black hawks ice hockey team, the chicago's main team reaching the furthest ever in the stanley cup for over 3 decades!
Biggest sport in america, definitly ice hockey, Baseball and american footabll, so much money involved, which is equlivant to our football leagues and the amount of money involved in these teams.
i watech a game last night with Anya and it gets really competitive.
Anya works at a bar so today she couldnt come with me to the museum but i didnt mind as i was used to travelling on my own.It is very interesting comparing waitressing to the UK, USA, NZ because in America they expect tips, you normallly tip 10% of your overall bill, unless you are not happy with your meal or anyting. The wage is minuimum if you are in this industry too, but you are expected to receive the rest of your money you earn from the tips.
from past experience in waitressing from NZ i found this very interesting.
Also 21 to drink is the legal age, but i managed to get into Anya's bar and see where she worked, because i wanted to see what a tradiotnal american sport bar looked like, it was heaving with people, it was a sturday night.
The museum yesterday the field museum of natural hisotry was so busy due to heavy rainfall.
similiar sections to museums known in lodnon,i.e. an egypitan room full of atrifacts makes you feel like your're in The british Museum. Also the museum was fantastic on giving information on naturalanimals of the northen america region
and also big cats and animals from africa, which did interest me and also made me miss africa ntirely!
After leaving the natural history musem i walked inot the central chicago region to find the 'route 66' road sign, as Chicago is the strat of the famous old route where the road goes all the way thorugh to California, past through the famous blue and jazz music scene.
I did walk past a number of blue and jazz bars and music cafe places, but beacuse im not 21 i cant see them and it does really make me feel sad and annoyed because Chicago is famous for thids music
the sign itself was literally just one old rn down sign, no tourisyty sign syaing where it is, you have to look hard to see it.
i then spent an hour or so looking for an internet cafe
right America no internet cafes, aprt from the odd one where you pay big big bucks for, took me ages, apparently because every chicagoion has their own hi tech phone or laptop you dont need interent cafes, so im sorry to say this travellers you need your own laptop to go with to america.
today was a gorgeous sunny day and got to see a street fete. which is actually really good because the streets are cloesd and the whole community get together toi work together to make it a lovely day out, stalls seling mainly crafts, but beautiufl carafts, food cafes and stops too, real fun
Then i went to the African and American museum which was a museum on the how the black Americans got their own rights and Martin luther king was mntioned a lot in the museum, and also other people that helped gained the blacks rights. It was a very interesting museum and also there was a section on the jazz blues music scene and chicago did start this off from the late 1920's and piahed through to the 80's
My favourite part of the museum was the section on africa again and nelson mandela, i love this part of the wolrd and because i learnt so much about mandela from the apartheid mussuem in johannesburg in S africa, i was inot reading more about him and revamping my knowledge on this great man who made his country turn and around.
