The Capricorn Caves, the oldest tourist attraction in Queensland, were on our route so we decided we'd pop in to see if we could do the "adventure tour", a sort of potholing-light trip where they guide you through features with names such as Fat Man's Misery. Thankfully, fitting, to an extent, the previous bodily shape, we weren't able to do that due to lack of any guide to take us, so we did the simple one hour walk through the more accessible caverns.

We booked in to the next tour forty minutes later at noon, and at 11.57am, we were pretty pleased that the three of us would have a guide to ourselves. At 11.59am, we contented ourselves that two more quiet people wouldn't detract too much from the experience. At 12.05pm, when one of the staff called to our guide "Judie, we've got a big catch-up group. Will you wait please?", we began to worry!! And so we should have. A single (family/friend) group of about twenty of the rudest, slowest, most inconsidate people you could imagine joined our elite tour. Poor Judie never stood a chance. They dawdled, they chatted all over her commentary and, ignoring the basic requirement of entry, they leant their sticky hands all over the delicate limestone walls contributing to spoiling it for future groups....

The caves were good but the experience wasn't as good as it should have been....

Knowing how short you can be with some (un-named) people Becks, I have absolutely no doubt that you too would have done your grumpy old man impression!!
