Elaine and Richard (Rick!!!!) Shaw recommended our first campsite in San Vicente de la Barque, and so we rocked up like the true professionals that we are (hoping to become) and set ourselves up for our first night roughing it on this tour of southern Europe.

Tent up - almost professionally - in 15 minutes.  And, lo and behold, it's stopped raining....  Marvellous....

This is a lovely little town and we had a walk in to get lunch and supplies for dinner.  The castle and ancient chuch looked good above the town and we spotted our first 'Caminho' way markers. Having thought that the Caminho to Santiago de Compestela would be a gentle stroll in the sun we now know, having done many hills that maybe a 750 k walk may not be the thing to do!!

This place is not the "Costa's" though.  Everything closes from 2pm to 4.30pm.  Couldn't check in to our site, couldn't go to the supermarket.  Only thing we could do was to sit and drink beer.  Oh, that first pint of San Miguel!!!!  Is there anything better?

Well, campsite dinner of pork biryani with a nice rioja came close.....

On our way out, we stopped for coffee at Llanes. which is a bit of a hidden gem.  You wouldn't stop here for your holidays, I don't think, but it was really nice to spend an hour drinking cheap but good coffee and watching the world go by...
