And
so to our next stop, Barcelona. I've only been here once before but
sadly – and I know I'm the exception to the rule – I just didn't
like it. But, we're doing it and the compromise is that I'll do the
“general tour” of the city on day one and then sit back at the
campsite catching up with the blog and things while Jane does La
Sagrada Familia and others on day two. So here I am. And I'm loving
it! I've had a text from Jane saying there was a four hour queue for
Goudi's masterpiece so she has given up on that and is clearly
walking - somewhere. (Note: I did try to buy a ticket for her for
today but sadly the sites wifi crashed and I was unable to do so,
hence the four hour queue....)

We're
camped – again on a lovely beach, this time no nakedness! - about
20 kilometres south of the city. We caught the bus in yesterday –
what a fine 2 Euro's worth that was – and by the time we'd reached
the terminus at Placa de Catalunya, I'd remembered why I disliked the
place so much. Just one big urban sprawl...... Still, it was a
nice day overall and we did a bus tour that I'd not done before and
we took the cable car down from the mountain to the marina and had
lunch in a beach bar before strolling up Las Rambla to catch our bus
back.....

We're
getting the hang of this camping lark but it has to be said that
we're not quite there yet. Avid followers of this rubbish will
recall that early days, we (Jane!) had to purchase warm clothing and
that we had to buy a tarp so we could cook in the dry. We've also
worked out, over time, that you need to park the tent the right way
round so you're not sleeping with your head downhill and we know,
having bladders of six decades vintage, that we need to park not too
far from the amenities block. We also know that the further away we
are from the noise of the motorway, the better our night's sleep will
be!

So
why the bloody hell had we not worked out until now that it's unwise
to pitch your tent under an arclamp?!?!?!? We've done two nights
here and after a number of “comfort breaks” during hours of
darkness, I can confirm that it's actually far lighter inside our
tent than it is outside...

Anyway,
only one more night of the anglepoise and then we head for France.
Sadly, we've dilly dallied longer than we'd intended to between
Valencia and Barcelona and we're having to drive straight through the
Costa Brava without taking in the sights. Maybe we can linger longer
here next time?!?!?

Jane on

Actually day é - alone - was good - managed a 5mile walk - as stated the queue for Sagrades Familias was far too long and we couldn't get tickets - so that's for next time! I walked around the gothic, Muslim and Jewish area and managed a few shops too!!

Becks on

You'll be glad to hear that we in the UK were bathed in sunshine over the weekend (pink bits to prove it - sorry if you're breakfasting!) but unfortunately can't match your scenery... And the only bare bum I saw was Alex's, so that doesn't count. Keep it coming, guys, and enjoy the next leg x
