Well, I woke up this morning at Wast Water and it was raining, and it was misty, and it was grim and Wast Water doesn't look half as nice when it's raining!  Glad I did my route march yesterday!

I was heading to the Duddon Valley because Julia said on Countryfile that it's nice.  And then bypassing Hardnot Pass, to go up Wrynose Pass for some Wild Camping.

But it was still raining and I missed several turns and I couldn't find out where I was and so I decided to cut out today completely.

I'd passed the sign to Hardnot Pass - it said "30%".  I think it was a sensible move to miss this one out.  Poor bus would have had a bloody fit!  And with the wet roads and my lost enthusiasm to walk the Duddon Valley in the rain, I've skirted around Wrynose and parked up at Bowness.

I'm sitting here in a MacDonald Hotel (very posh again!!) typing in this update.  Free wi-fi but 4 a pint!!

I've decided that as I've ticked off all the main things (except one in Staffordshire) that I wanted to do, I'm going to save the wagon too much more pain and head back towards the M6 (yuk!) tomorrow.  If the weather's fine, I'll drop in to the Roaches for my last walk and if it's crap, I'll go home and do that another time...

So one final update to come when I get home or somewhere near..

Becks on

What a shame the adventure's coming to a close...this time! Sorry the weather's put a dampener on the last stage, but I reckon you've had it pretty good for Blighty in early April, sir.

For what it's worth, I think you'd have regretted tackling any of those passes in the bus - we did it with a loaded car and Simon had to let the vehicle roll back down to the levellest area he could find before over-revving like crazy in first and making a last-ditch assault on the incline. Doesn't help that the track's single-car width and every bend's a blind tight little bugger. What am I saying? That would have made for an exceptional blog entry, even if you'd have needed several pints before having a steady enough hand to type it!
