After spending a few days on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey we continued on our journey... sailing through numerous Greek islands... stopping for a few hours on Samos, where we quickly walked into the narrow streets... finding a shady restaurant to consume copious amounts of iced coffee, fruit juice and water... Soon our ferry left for Mykonos... only to crash out for a night... a beautiful little island... but not for us... we jumped on a high speed ferry the following morning and in less than a few hours arrived at Naxos... arriving at our home for the next 9 days... a smallish apartment with a kitchenette and a patio surrounded by flowering bushed and trees... on the edge of the beach... a mere minute walk to the inviting waters of the Mediterranean... which soon became a ritual... practiced throughout the day...

Naxos is a beautiful island surrounded by a mostly sandy coastline... a mountainous interior with clever villages spilling off the rocky peaks...

Relaxing on the island was the highlight for most of us...

The boys loved taking sailboarding lessons... riding mopeds around the island for two days...
hiking up Mount Zeus... peeking into the cave where legend has it he was born... walking into town to eat ice cream every evening... hanging out in the apartment during the heat of the afternoon and enjoying a daily episode of an imported American classic... Baywatch... funny... Baywatch in Greece... I guess they love that show here... have to admit... after a few days we all would find our way back to our apartment during siesta time... and grab a munchie and plop on the beds for an tacky episode of bikinied blondes with big boobs and men is speedos running around flirting with each other... kind of like the beach scene down the way from our apartment... except it was filled with families... with sexy scandinavian moms in bottoms only and dads running around in speedos... Naxos is a very popular island for Scandinavians to spend their summer holiday... many Danes, Swedes and Norwegian families hanging out at the beach... turning brown and crispy... soaking up a years worth of sun before they head back for another 10 months of shade... I have always liked the freedom the Scandinavian culture exudes... and it added to the ambiance of the island...

Deb found herself passionately melting into numerous yoga positions while tucked into the sand dunes near the beach... Reading a small library of books and becoming one with the water... I love to watch Deb swim... it is like making love to the sea... she fully lets herself go... sensuously playing in the rising and falling waves...

I would often wake early... and head off jogging into the island roads... ending up on an isolated beach... stripping down to my aging birthday suit... for a cool down swim in the sea... I also enjoyed spending time with my family... quality time... no hassles... no work... no place to be or task to complete... I guess this is VACATION... I think I like it...

Refreshed... Relaxed... and Rejuvenated... we left on the next leg of our trip... Athens for a week...
