It's a strange thought to know that I'll be somewhere across the world as some of you are reading this. And I thank you for your interest! I plan on keeping a detailed log for myself to reflect on when I return, and of course for anyone that wants to travel vicariously through me as I travel across the world! So please do, it will put a smile on my face!

If anyone is wondering why someone would leave their home, family, friends and all of life's luxuries for months on end to sleep in small huts, eat strange food, take cold saltwater showers, and to not know what you're going to do the next day then let me explain. Six months ago traveling around the world was the last thing that I thought I would be doing this year. Four months ago life took an unexpected turn and presented me with an eight month window of opportunity to "get out of Dodge"(Eight months because I'm waiting to get into next years nursing school). So here I am, 26, single, have a bachelors degree, waiting to get into nursing school, and have a zest for adventure and traveling. I'm also in search of slowing down the pace of life. I feel like things are just moving along way to fast. What's the point of life if you can't slow down and enjoy it? So what to do? I want to live life, not watch it pass by. To quote my father's favorite passage from Henry David Thoreau "...I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Henry David Thoreau went to live in the woods to do that. I want to accomplish the same goal, however, I plan on doing that through traveling! So just a warning-I might try to get philosophical as I'm traveling...and feel free to through in your own comments, it could be fun!

Enough of all that mumbo jumbo, lets get on to the next subject at hand...time, and as usual, it is flying by! Only one month left! I think I have most of the stuff I need...hmmm, I wonder what I'll forget. In a few weeks I'll be thousands of miles away. Wow! How do I feel? Well, take a lot of excitement mixed with a tablespoon of anxiety, a hint of nervousness, and a touch of "I must be crazy" and you got it! It is really just starting to hit me that I'm actually leaving. Less than one month! I can't wait!

I'll post again before I leave. Still have to finish that never ending checklist of things to do!
