Thursday March 25th: South Maumee
Weather: Rainy
Afternoon:
We are on the other side of South Maumee building trail. It rained last night (right as we zipped into our tent!). I stayed dry and slept well. I woke up coughing which was... lame. The trail is really muddy and hard to work with. I raked for awhile which was fun. I really love digging out tree trunks, but that's not on the to do l list for the day. Had the last everything bagel today for lunch... mmm.
Night:
Its gonna be a cold night! So we are all snuggled into the 4 person tents (the four girls that is). So tonight I was reading in the tent and missed soup. Natalie told me it was ready, I came over with my bowl and... Rick tells me there is no more soup. I really wanted some soup today too! Maybe some Uncle Sammy's when I get home? Best chicken noodle ever!
So I am trying to figure out how I feel about this trip. I went because I wanted to camp. The project semi-interested me. Dave said this group saves the gov't $6-8,000. Wow, It makes me think! Why aren't they at least supporting the Wilderness Volunteers to have us here? I guess it seems more straight forward somewhere like a National Park. I guess volunteers do just that, give that extra boost. Apparently there is a trip to Hawaii that helps restore Wild Sea Turtle habitats. I want to go on that one so bad! Trail building is cool, but so much hard work.
I am pumped to come back in ten years a hike it all!
