If you have the choice not to go to Tapachula, then don't. Its hot humid dirty smelly and there is very little to see, the only benefit of the place is that its on the Guatemalan border.
If you HAVE to go to Tapachula (TicaBus run only from here in Mexico) then do NOT stay in the hotel villa del sol. Its very expensive for what it is, the rooms are dirty, the aircon is broken and the shower didnt work.

The best thing I can say about Tapachula is that we only had to spend a day and a night here.

Izapa Ruin Site and the Museum of Anthropology displaying artifacts from the Soconusco Culture make Tapachula a worthy visit.
