Arrived in Caracas with two days before our next flight on to Ecuador
Arriving in South America gave us our first chance to practice our spanish. Spent a good day walking around the city checking it out. It´s rubbish, don´t bother. Decided to take a taxi back to the hotel and stood on the pavement waiting for a free taxi to pass. A lot of the streets have signposts along them with a big letter ´E´. After a few minutes of waiting with no luck, Kat pointed out there are no cars parked along this street and several ´E´ signposts.
"I don´t think this is the best place to get a taxi to stop"
"Because cars can´t stop along this street"
"Look at these signposts, ´E´ is for ellegal!"
*** NEXT DAY ***
Were eating lunch, "Hold on, ´E´ is for ellegal, Whaaaaaat!!!"
Anyway, we got out taxi, and on the way back we asked the guy in dodgy spanish how much would it be from out hotel to the airport. This journey was clearly not a popular taxi route and the driver started talking very fast. We had learnt some basic spanish questions but when it came to answers, this is where our understanding stops. Unable to understand a word we tried a quick "Habla Inglais?" (speak english) this didn´t stop his ranting becoming more and more passionate. Pulling up at the hotel we put on a nice BIG smile and in polite english we interrupted with a quick "Si, Si, Si, Adios" we jumped out of the taxi trying not to laugh.
