Trained it from Portland very early on Wednesday 21st, enjoying the charge-up and Wi-fi on the train, although not tooo scenic. Michael chuffed to see the famous Tacoma Narrows bridge at close quarters.
Rolled the bags a few blocks in icy temperatures through Seattle streets to the ferry dock and boarded for Bainbridge Island.
Jane and Stan collected us and took us to a cosy cafe/bakery for a latte before heading to their exceptionally positioned place on the waters edge of Puget Sound.
Cooking for Thanksgiving was in serious progress - Pumpkin Pies, Apple/Sour Cream Pies, Turkey etc etc.
Thursday we headed to their friends, Rick and Maureen's for a very formal Thanksgiving meal.
Took our 1st real look at Seattle on Friday, ferrying it over. Wandered thru Pike St markets, up the Space Needle and watched the Macy's tree being lit under fireworks. Seattle delivered as promised - as the T-Shirt says "Drizzle Fest - 1st January - 31st December"!!
Saturday was Christmas Tree Hunting in the Olympic Mountains - a real experience! Left at 9am and didn't return till 6pm. Lots of decisions about roads to take, sizes to choose, shapes etc.
We were victorious with 3 huge trees on 3 SUVs. Now to decorate - B

Our last day on Bainbridge Island was another glorious day with clear views of the snow-capped Olympic Mountains across Puget Sound. Must be tough for Jane and Stan to wake up to that every day! The day included a walk through Poulsbo, a beautiful waterfront village with a proud Viking heritage. Stan and I set up the xmas tree ready for Jane's incredible assortment of decorations and in the evening we celebrated with eggnog and pastries at Sandy's stunning western red cedar log mansion, another incredible waterfront on Puget Sound. Many thanks to Jane and Stan for their time and generous hospitality on Bainbridge Island and cementing a friendship founded in a wild bus ride in Genoa Italy over four years ago. - M

Great to hear you are both having a great time, the exact opposite here as we are sweltering in incredibly high temperatures lately Hit 47 degrees at Broken Hill and much of NSW over 40's. As you can imagine the kids at school are rather lethargic as are the withered staff. Harry is doing well and we had 3 staff absent today. At least reports are finalised and now Glenn is doing 2013 timetables. Have lots of fun and are enjoying your photographic itinerary.
