We survived the 13 hour torture train trip from Hanoi to Hue despite the cramped and grubby prison cell for 4! Nice to share with Mary and Dan tho.
Pouring when we got off the train so the proposed motorbike tour was cancelled, flooding all around.
After the hotel brekkie I collapsed into bed and Michael went for a sodden tour of The Citadel. History of Emporers, Mandarins and their concubines was interesting. The inner citadel had been bombed in the war.
Had a late Italian lunch which was fab and of course very cheap.
Group dinner at a Dat recommended restaurant - Michael, Mike, Matt and I had a 9 COURSE set menu!!!  The food just kept coming and coming.  Once again, scrumptious. Don't think we've eaten anything that hasn't been yet!
And onto the Bar - well trays of shots appeared regularly, including flaming Sambucca's at the end of the night. and of course, happy hour with 2 for 1, so.....when in Hue....
Needless to say, the next morning, felt very seedy....

Sad to leave the Asia Hotel, it had the best beds yet - the only ones that weren't like sleeping on a board. Hue seemed up-market compared with Hanoi - clean streets, footpaths you can walk on and traffic with some kind of order, however the newness was mostly due to the fact that the yanks bombed the crap out of it during the war.
On the way out of Hue we stopped at the Thien Mu Pagoda and the majestic and serene tomb of Tu Duc an emperor from the Nguyen dynasty.
The rest of the day was spent bussing to Hoi An - our home for the next three days.

Update - heard from some other travellers today that people have been flooded in at Hue since we left and others are stuck on that delightful train from Hanoi. Having had some very heavy showers in Hoi An, fortunately we fly out to Saigon - no more trains!!!
