So now we're on the lazy island of Corfu. I am toasty in my newly acquired sunburn along with everyone else who has varying degrees of redness covering their bodies. We've had a alot of fun here :) This place is beautiful with a magnificent view of a purely blue sea, breathable air, and tall green forested mountains. I look around me and think "This is Greece! :)" The small winding streets, the squat white houses, the friendly tan people. It's great! The perfect lazy day or so spent on the beach.
Before this, Colin and I were in Athens and watched the Champions League Final, which was an experience! We picked a spot in the back away from the screens where they were showing the game, and closer to the tamer fans congregating closer to where the police were set up. Still, we were right in the middle of things. We picked a spot right in front of some middle aged Liverpool fans who shouted all kinds of creative explitives at the referee (who was German and apparently everyone was convinced was strictly against Liverpool. I kind of agree since even I could tell some of his calls were bogus). I never knew that it was a bad thing to be a Mai Tai drinker, but apparently in England that a pansy or something! :) They also called him something that sounded like a Hot Tottie, whatever that was! Listening to this in itself was entertaining enough for me, but beyond that, the game itself was extremely interesting! I think I'm going to be a football fan now. The game is so fast and intense and highly skilled. I loved it. The Liverpool fans were very vocal, singing the entire time, and when Milan scored, they actually threw a lit flare into the elated Milan fans. No one was seriously hurt from what we could tell, so it was actually kind of funny when Milan sent it back. Then all of a sudden flares were being tossed back and forth between the two sides and it got crazy. Fireworks, noisecrackers, the crowd screaming cheers. We took a cautious few steps back after that, but we were well behind all of this. We decided to leave either 10 minutes before the game ended or when Milan scored again and they happened to be at about the same time. It was kind of sad to our brothers from across the pond lose, especially since they had turned out in such numbers, but the whole experience was great.
In the next two days, Colin and I went the the Bernaki Museum and the National Archeological Museum. By far, the Benaki Museum is the best museum I've ever been to. They have everything from Neolithic (beginnings of agricultural society) artifacts to present history. It's set up in a way to show you the progression of the peoples of Greece. Colin and I ate it up! After long days wandering foreign countries, Colin and I decided to go do something trully American; Go see a movie! We happened to show up on Pirates of the Caribean opening night, so we bought our popcorn, took our assigned seats, and reveled in the American language, sense of humor, and writing. I've never loved Johnny Depp so much! :) I was kind of a relief after studying Greek pillars for three days! It's a great movie. Go see it

Heavenly!
It sounds so wonderfu! Ryan will be so impressed that y'all stuck out the crazy soccer fans. We're zipping up our bags right now. Heading for church and then to the airport. Caroline is all graduated and her speech was a great success if I may say so myself. See you all very soon!

Great to hear from you
Wonderful to hear from you again. Dad and I would be happy to help with the cost of internet access. It means so much to both of us to get messages from you. It was great to hear about your adventure at the football match and I'm sure Uncle Jim Webb will be thrilled to hear that you've caught the bug. I bet he'll be happy to take you to an FC Dallas game this summer. You got the note from Yvonne that Caroline has graduated. Hooray! Adam and Joseph have as well. It made for a very long day to make it to both of them but it was great to be there with the rest of the family and celebrate their accomplishments together. Dad will be heading to the other Athens, the one in Texas, on Thursday to be a counselor at the young adult retreat. It's too bad you can't go this year but there will be others. We're missing you both. Let us know about the internet access cost via email.
Love,
Mom and Dad
note from home
Dani, your favorite bagel place(Einstein Bros.) was voted best in Tarrant County. Have you eaten any grape leaf wrapped food or is that a Greek American tradition? Papamax
Re: note from home
Go Einsteins! No wrapped leaves! Just gyros and lots of Feta! That is the cheap way to do it!
