Nothin' says lovin’ like something from Sara’s oven

MaaMaw B’s Kitchen in Heavener, OK

According to Businessopportunity.com, "Starting a home-based business is a smart move in any economy . . . “ According to statistics, approximately 17 million women operate home-based businesses, and many of these women do it with children at home.

Sarah Baughman has tapped into the home-based bakery market and her culinary artistry and baking skills is an exceptional asset to the River Valley area.

Sarah’s lovingly named bakery and catering business, MaaMaw B’s Kitchen, just south of Heavener, Oklahoma, touts a love for more than just good food.  She is indeed a MaaMaw to grandsons Landon and Gauge, although she certainly doesn’t look old enough to hold the title.

Sarah says, “My grandson Landon is the reason I started the business.  I was making the cakes for his birthday and everyone kept telling me that I needed to start doing it as a business.“

Sarah reveals, “After I graduated from college with my second degree and couldn’t get a job, I decided to do what I was good at and that was food."  She holds degrees in both Accounting and a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, and graduated head of her class of 3,000 students.

After high school, Sarah received a scholarship to culinary school to be a chef.  However, she was anorexic and those around her advised against it, thus her path was directed towards Accounting.

Years later, however, her culinary gifts eventually drew her back to her calling. She discloses, “I’ve always had a passion for food and I made my first pan of biscuits at two years old.”  Since making the choice to jump into the home-based cooking industry she adds, “The Lord has blessed me over and over since I made the choice to do it.”

MaaMaw B’s, which also includes Sarah’s mom Gail Jones, averages around 20 cakes a week, and seldom are they simple cakes.  They also do a considerable amount of catering, including weddings, birthday parties, high school reunions and even golf tournaments.  The bakery also does complete meals for families even during the holidays.

Sarah says, “Cakes may take 4 to 5 hours or even up to a week to make all of the characters.”  And you will find all of her confections made from scratch.  No mixes in MaaMaw’s kitchen.  Everything is made to order including fondant, using real sugar, butter, flour and fresh fruits.  Sarah delights with mouthwatering goodness that tastes as good as it looks.

It’s obvious Sarah is an artist, and a gifted one at that.  She composes edible productions, while working with perishable materials, lending an ephemeral delicacy to this beautiful art.  You will fall in love with her mouthwatering confectionary creations the moment you feast your eyes upon her beautiful and creative masterpieces.

In addition to fancy cakes and home cooking, MaaMaw B’s also bakes up fresh baked breads, cookies, cupcakes and candies.  Her catering service attends to both small and large events, featuring both sweet and savory courses.

Although Sarah began her business at home, it has grown to such proportions that she is looking for property in Heavener to expand even larger and make it more convenient for both she and her customers; a true testament to how much her faithful fans love her cooking and artistic gifts.  As the old saying goes, “Nothing says lovin’ like somethin’ from the oven,” and where better to feel the love than in MaaMaw’s kitchen.

Sarah does a great job. She has made several cakes for me on several different occasions. Her prices are great compared to other local bakers. Her cakes taste amazing!

I saw her work for the first time about a year ago at a Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration and was blown away. I was in the business myself for about 20 years and feel I have a pretty good eye for quality work, and this lady does the best I've ever seen. It's good to see her getting such recognition for her talent and hard work.
