We stopped in the seaside town of Paracas for a night to check out the Ballestas Islands. We arrived into town with no were booked to stay but easily found a place beside the water. These uninhabited islands have amazing wildlife with several types of birds and many sea lion colonies (they are known as the poor man's Galapagos). Some of the islands are covered in birds and the guano (bird shit) can be several feet deep in places. Every year the Peruvians gather the guano and sell it as a highly prized fertilizer. We did a 2 hour boat tour which besides the smell of guano and getting a little wet, was class.

Next stop the Peruvian capital Lima.
