We got the bus from Montevideo to Colonia. Unfortunately we managed to buy tickets for the 3 hour, "stop at every crossroad" bus instead of the 2 hour direct bus. A hundred people must have hopped on and off the bus along the way. Maureen slept like a baby as usual. Once the bus starts moving she's konked.
Colonia is an old Portugese colonial town, that was used as a base to smuggle British goods across the Rio de la Plata into the Spanish Colonies. Today it has been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO, because of its well preserved colonial buildings and streets. A really beautiful spot.
We didn’t have much time in Colonia so we decided to hire a car for a few hours (it was more a buggy really), to drive along the coast and check out the rest of the town. The buggy looked the part alright but she didn’t have much welly. Had a good day though.
Next stop Buenos Aires!
