I’m
glad I got lots of sleep on the plane. There was an interesting article
I was reading online before I fell asleep about the Dollar Diplomacy.
It seems that William Taft played a big role in this policy. In 1913,
the U.S. payed off Latin American debt to Liberia. By doing this Latin
America owed the U.S. instead of Liberia and the U.S. remained in
control. Latin America did not approve of this and gave it the name
“Dollar Diplomacy”.

Taft
believed that America should only associate with those of the Western
Hemisphere. He was fearful that Europe was gaining control of the United
States and this was his way of preventing it. He also enforced this
policy with other countries such as Nicaragua and Honduras. I’m going to
be leaving the day after tomorrow and head back to Washington DC for my
final tour. I’m going to finally visit the White House! Right now I’m
going to relax by the pool and take some time off from traveling.

My advice to presidents is to continue to be tough on other countries so we can continue to stay on top and not be in debt to so many countries.
