On an "official" Kangaroo Cafe tour to Ha Long Bay, three days/two nights, we stayed on the boat the first night, which was relaxing and fun. From the boat we got a look at the spectacular Ha Long Bay scenery. The next night we stayed on Cat Ba island, followed by a drive across the island and another boat trip back to Ha Long City.

The tourist boats all had the same general design, so although they flocked together in large numbers, they were pleasant to look at. They have governors to prevent them from going too fast, and there were no speedboats or jet skis - only the tourist boats, two-stroke family boats, boats powered by human effort, and the occasional ferry. In the channel were a few huge freighters traveling to or from the South China sea.

While we were there, voting was going on to include Ha Long Bay in one of the "new 7 wonders" of the world: http://www.new7wonders.com/ and Ha Long Bay is among the winners.
