Arrived in BA after a pleasant ferry trip from Montevideo and we headed straight for a hostel in Palermo (a kind of posh area). We were to meet with Paul and Conny whom we had met during our travels in Peru and Bolivia for a drink fest so we tried the hostel they had already booked called La Taba. There wasn`t a bed to be had the first night but the girl at reception reserved the next three nights for us and also organised accomodation for the first night in an alternative hostel.

The young bloke checking us into the alternative hostel spke so fast and so weird. Conors spanish is ok at this stage but he couldn`t understand a word. It sounded like the guy was trying to talk while sucking four lemons and licking salt from a giant gobstopper in his tiny mouth. But we got sorted and headed out to meet Paul and Conny for our first night in BA on the sauce.

BA is a huge city full of hot and packed shopping streets. There`s all sorts of strange people on the streets busking and painting odd paintings too.  It reminded us of Barcelona except on a grander scale.  The streets are huge and go on forever and theres loads of trendy business buildings amongst the hundreds and hundreds of Gaudi style balconys and beautiful buildings with tango shows on the street, colourful houses, huge plaza`s and a general buzz about the place.  The main shopping centre, Galeria Palacio is really nice, expensive but the quality of clothes just isnt the same as at home.  Main sights included the Obelisco and the cemetry where we saw Eva "Evita" Peron´s grave.  When I say grave I mean mini shrine, the cemetry is unreal and its where all the elite of Argentina are buried.  The photos will give you a general idea of the little churches and monuments built to honour the dead but you can`t help thinking that there`s probably been a lot more nicer people in the world who weren`t given such grand resting places.  We went to alot of the plaza´s and saw a cool jazz band play on the street, professional dog walkers with the purebred dogs, the main Plaza de Mayo with the Casa Rosada (Pink Palace - basically Sandras house in B.A.!!) where Evita engergised the crowds.  We saw the gaurds practicing outside the war monuments on Plaza Libertador General San Martin and walked around the posh shops and streets.  One of the nights out included starting in the Irish bar (of course) and met up with Anto and Sara again which was great fun.  By dawn the lads had gotten winks from the Pat Butcher fluzies in this mental little shindig and at the niteclub we´d gotten into VIP (roped off sofa but still!) courtesty of Marco (please see "smiley face conor" pic for viewing of Marco) and danced to Connie & Sara´s top choice drum & bass music.  Some top dj on that night too, DJ Markie, supposed to be top d&b dj in the world! impressed!?  Ye i thought so! Dj equip pic just for you Aido! Great craic afterwards, BA just gorgous at 6am, sun just coming up, metro just started and got great views of the city as the streets were empty.  Plus the world always looks better when your a little bit tipsy (lou and paul were shitfaced) at the end of a great night and falling home with friends!  I know we were drunk Anthony but mail us and we`ll meet in Oz k as promised! After Conor and Paul slogged out a good pool game with two local lads they ended up losing 3-2 after Paul (after "some" whiskeys) potted the white after the black. Hehe. Some fab food, great pool (not you Paul!), good laughs, great nights out and great lodgings.

Overall BA was pretty cool, another city done and filed into the memory box.  Not alot more we can say about a city, just another place you guys have to come and experience for yourselves!  Its like being a backpacker, you cant explain it, you just have to experience it! Yes Neil, we have turned into hippies too!

Party like mad the two of you and enjoy it. Be careful though no alleys or strange taxies.

Love you,
