Day 9. Tuesday, August 11
We got up very early to check in by 7 am and take the ferry from Bar Harbor, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The CAT bills itself as the fastest ferry in N. America. It can travel up to 55 mph. It was a very smooth ride in spite of a constant drizzle of rain. We arrived in Yarmouth exactly 3 hours after we left at 8 am. The rain stopped and the sun came out around noon. We checked out the visitor's center and decided to take the Southern route to Truro. On the way we took a detour via Lunenberg, NS where we saw the famous "Blue Nose" the fastest schooner built in the 1800s. The Concordia was also docked there.
We arrived at the Palliser Hotel about dinner time. Nova Scotia is about 500 miles long and Truro is approximately half-way between Yarmouth and Sidney. The Palliser overlooks a Nova Scotia phenomenon, the Tidal Bore which I will get up early tomorrow in hopes of seeing.
