All four of us piled into Peggy's Toyota (our van is packed to the gills) and headed to Hingham, MA where Margaret Williamson Smalzel resides in an assisted living home. Margaret, Peggy and I shared a "triple" for two years while we were at Agnes Scott and have remained good friends for 58 years now.  For reasons unbeknownst to me, August 8 had stuck in my brain as her birthday, so Peggy and I took appropriate mementos.  Margaret greeted us with a warm smile, though she looked thinner and frailer than she was at our 50th college reunion in 2005.  But she was the same Margaret, ame warm smile and that same sparkle in her eyes.  She knew her birthday was in August but didn’t remember the date so we all decided today was as good as any other August date to celebrate.  As we sat in a parlor visiting, two other women joined us, handed Margaret a bouquet of flowers and wished her a happy birthday.  They came from Cohasset, a couple of miles away on Boston’s south shore.  They had been neighbors and their children were good friends growing up.  We enjoyed a lively 45 minute visit telling stories of our experiences with Margaret and they shared theirs.  Margaret seemed to thoroughly enjoy our visit, at times a little overwhelmed with all the attention.  We all parted, somewhat tearfully, especially Margaret.  It was a good visit and one that I will treasure.  We returned to the Maxwell home and connected to the internet for the first time in several days while Peggy and Sidney went to a grandson’s birthday party in nearby Norfolk, MA.
