What I did
We have been coming to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens for three or four years now. Each year, new areas are added, each besting the last. We met Gregg & Judy Lozanoff and Steve and Rachel there and enjoyed showing them around. One thing that fascinated us this year was the vertical gardens - what an innovative way to grow flowers, fruits, or whatever. We hiked the trail down by the river, and this year did not see any ladyslippers as we have in the past. There was, however, an experiential area where the staff was trying to do research on ladyslippers and had planted thousands! The rhododendron by the waterfall area were early this year, and so we missed them. Oh well, still a beautiful area!
When we left the Gardens, we drove down to Peapod Jewelry and visited with Ronna and Tamar. What a hoot! Mary asked about the parade this year at Round Pound, and we were shown the banners and props for this year's Peapod float. Needless to say, the governor would not be happy to see it!
We had a late dinner at a small bar in Rockland. Mary had a haddock chowder (a huge bowl) and Doug had fish and chips.
