I started form Northville, MI at 8:00, but first I washed and gassed the car and got cash and an everything bagel with cream cheese from town.  A girl has to have something to munch on while traveling and my something is always almonds and Hersey nuggets with almonds.

I set my iPod with my music, plotted the course on my iPad and was off.  There is a lot of road work on i275 in the summer.  I guess summer is the only time the Michigan weather will permit repairs.

I have to tell you that I am actually writing this on June 26, so my thoughts are more reflective than immediate.  I was reluctant to leave after some intense Pillon times, but I thought that road trip therapy would be just the thing to get me out of the house for a change of perspective.  I didn't want to leave my garden.  Please remember that my garden is watered with a WATERING CAN. They can't seem to fix the spigot that would allow for a hose.  So those among you who love to garden and have a hose, more power to you.

I am most nervous about directions and connection freeways on my first day of travel.  This trip was no different, but to allay my fears, I had downloaded a hard copy of Map Quest directions and was comfortable with that.  But then, I wanted to see the little blue ball that showed me, not where I was going, but where I was.  That was on my iPad.  Amy, what was that story about the bird who never wanted to know where he was going, but just wanted to know where he had been, so he flew backwards?  Was that Dr. Seuss?  Anyway, that story was my first introduction to the fact that there might actually be different ways to travel.

Kathleen is going to hold down our fort of Joanie, the cat, the ducks, the chipmunks, the birds, the squirrels and the garden.   Knowing things would be in her competent hands made it easier to get on the road.  I promised that I would do the same if she went for a little jaunt.  Neither of us feel comfortable leaving Joanie or the cat without us for too long.  Call it our need to be needed.

This part of the trip took me from Northville, MI to Erie, PA.  I was going to stop in Cleveland, but decided on Erie because I wanted to sleep in Pennsylvania, not Ohio.  Was Pennsylvania an original colony?  I like the idea of sleeping in the original colonies... Pennsylvania and New York.

Erie has Presque Isle which means "almost an island."  The Pennsylvanians call it "the peninsula," according to the desk guy at Comfort Inn, who took the time to chat with me.  I had a bib lettuce salad that I had had for lunch at the Macaroni Grill in Olmstead, PA for dinner and crashed without seeing the sites of Erie.

I woke early, as usual, and gave myself a two hour drive around Presque Isle before I hit the road.  Here are some pictures.  I never knew so much about Perry and "Don't Give Up the Ship." There is a place called Graveyard Pond where they had to bury many of the sailors who fought for him in the Revolutionary War.  It looks peaceful now, but imagine what it must have been like at the time...it is in the picture with the disorganized/ organized geese.
