- to see the area from another perspective,
- to recharge for the inevitable and sometimes relentless kid-time.
As you have seen by the San Fran pics my obsession with bridges, which I had warned you of in an earlier blog: The Golden Gate is an interesting bridge. When you first arrive, she frustrates you because the incessant fog does not allow you to get a good view. But then, if you get the opportunity to visit her everyday you realize that her beauty lies in her giving you a different view each day, if not every other hour as her gown of fog shifts and changes.
I had the opportunity to ride over her most mornings while in SF and captured a few pics.
As for the rest of the pics, they should speak for themselves of a view worth taking in. Sometimes it was a break to take in the view, mostly it was an opportunity to catch my breath. Or it may even be capturing my RV shopping.
I realise that i am more adventurous on my rides back home when i have my mates around. By myself, i go a little slower down the hills in case i go over the edge and there is no one to see me; or when the road ends and it says "KEEP OUT", I disappoint myself by finding that mostly, i do not enter. Damn, if you do not watch yourself, this society can turn you into a law abiding citizen without the ability to challenge or use your own logic in making decisions.
Today was a riding highlight. We are in Lake Tahoe: Northstar is a ski resort in winter and opens for mountain biking in summer. Ski lifts take you to the top for a green, blue, black or dbl diamond run down. On my arrival in my lycra and single speed hard tail in hand, I felt naked when everyone else had full helmets, body armour and big hit-big travel bikes. I had to remind myself that they were familiar pre-race butterflies/ excitement and to just climb onto a gondola, all foreign and strange for riding back home. I can only say that I managed to get a taste for what Broomie, Waps, wives and others have managed to experience in the Alps. It was a great day and my aluminum 29er hardtail single speed did herself proud.
