What I did
We are staying just outside of San Francisco in a place called Castro Valley. A great house with enough space for all, hot tub, enough tvs for kids and the Olympics.
Today we headed to the Rock. Good fun in all. But if you have not done Robben Island, before the era of the real prisoners are gone, make sure you go. For me, Alcatraz is a bucket list and I am glad I went. But having been to Robben Island, you note the difference. For one the horde of tourist being processed through; the need to stay strictly on the paths; the inability to interact with the island, to sit in a jail cell or stroll off the designated path, and the canned audio tour. Saying that, the audio tour offers background sound effects and dramatics that may be better than a poor guide.
Yesterday, we also went to the science museum positioned in the golden gate bridge national park. It was good to walk through the layers of a rain forrest, and the aquarium is always a hit. The kids enjoyed it more than most other museums - it may have been the positive influence of their Canadian cousins.
I recall the things I have enjoyed on previous travels are sunsets and bridges. On the west coast in San Fran, I hope to experience and share lots of both.
